What is a bead head nymph?
A nymph is a fly tied to look like an insect larva, fished below the surface. A bead head is a small metal bead at the hook eye that adds weight and a flash. Ours have copper beads and come as 6 flies, 6 nymphs, or a mixed pack of 12.
What does a nail knot tool do?
A nail knot joins fly line to leader with a neat, small knot that passes through the rod guides. Our 4-in-1 tool ties the nail knot and adds line clippers, a hook sharpener and an eye cleaner, on a zinger retractor that pins to a vest. The listing suggests sharpening the blade before first use.
Why keep flies in a fly box?
Flies are small and sharp, and their hackles crush if they rattle around loose. A fly box holds each one in a foam slot. Ours is waterproof, 135 x 80 mm, in black, and small enough for a shirt pocket.
What else do I need to start?
A fly rod, reel and line are not something we sell yet. The flies, the knot tool and the box cover the small items that get lost or damaged most. Our fishing pliers and line cutter also work for unhooking and trimming on the stream.
