Trout are wary, so lighter line, smaller lures and a quiet approach all help. Cast upstream or across a stream and let the lure come back naturally.
What lures catch trout?
Small inline spinners, small minnows, spoons and flies. Our rotating spinners come in packs of five at 5.5 to 6.5 cm, and our small sinking minnow is 50 mm.
What line should I use?
Light, thin line. A fluorocarbon-coated line is harder to see underwater, and our monofilament comes in fine sizes from 0.8.
How should I approach the water?
Stay low, move slowly and keep your shadow off the pool. Trout spook easily, so a short, accurate cast beats a long one.
What about fly fishing?
Flies imitate insects and suit trout well. We sell copper head nymph flies and a knot tool; see our fly fishing guide.
